Darkways
With their second full-length album Rust, Barcelona darkwave outfit Darkways take the foundations established on Resonance and push them into considerably bleaker territory. Released on January 16, 2026, the ten-track album revolves around decay, mortality, fading identity and the uncomfortable realization that everything we build eventually disappears. Darkways themselves describe the record as an exploration of impermanence, aging and the emptiness beneath human ambition. Musically, however, Rust is anything but lifeless. Darkways remain firmly rooted in darkwave, goth rock, coldwave and post-punk, but compared with Resonance, there is a heavier emotional weight to the material. Synthesizers still provide the nocturnal atmosphere, guitars add considerable muscle, and the vocals retain their characteristic deep, melancholic presence. The difference is that this time the darkness feels less romantic. On Rust, it has consequences.
