| "war songs" is a concept album about what Mary will regard ironically as her favorite subject, war. However the album not only deals with matters of war and peace, but also social status, persecution and hints of nationalism and sexual abuse. A rather eccentric presentation of what seems otherwise a very moderate tradition, the protest song. but colorful personas are emerging more and more in our day and age. building new traditions upon the old. "war songs" first came out as a collection of home recordings, that Mary used to sell at shows and when busking. if you have one of those hand made copies.... in a few years... who knows... The official release consists of professional studio recordings, but keeps the intimate lo-fi atmosphere of the homerecordings. It features several additions and changes. Now on a two month US tour (March/April 2014). |
