This compilation showcases the fine and raw talent of majority West Coast underground bands owning true grit and grrl power. Notable inclusions are brand new tracks from two legendary 90's bands - the political hardcore punks Naked Aggression from Los Angeles, and the first all-girl riot punk band from Austin, Texas - The Applicators. 'Dance on Your Grave' by the latter is an emotive track that is equal and dynamic with its New Orleans' voodoo references as it's rich vocal tones and shredding guitars made by the wrath of a rage-filled woman. Among the plentiful, worthy, highlight discovery bands in this compilation are Aruspex from Browns Valley, CA - a melodic crust punk band with furious rhythms melded with intelligent lyrics so eloquently screamed, shouted and growled. In contrast are the hyper-clear honeyed vocals of Tess Stevens from Tess and the Details, whose commanding voice compliments her band's punk rock n' roll sensibilities. Sister pop punk duo Dog Party's single 'Bullet in Disguise' brings a fun spaghetti western twist to polished pop punk that is undeniably charming. Following the footsteps of previous incarnations of feminine fests such as Lilith Fair and She Shreds, Doll Fest aims to be the next femme music and arts festival. This release is a wonderful testament to the celebration of bands that represent feminine energy, friendship, and gathering together of a community in support of one another. |
