The legendary John Lee Hooker began his long and storied recording career in 1948, and over the next several years he released dozens of sides for the Los Angeles based blues and R&B super power label Modern. This classic LP collects some of his finest singles from 1948-1954, raw and powerful stuff that is as important as any from Hooker's entire career. Often featuring just Hooker and his guitar, or with a small backing combo, these tracks are sparse and deep, as real as the blues ever were. |
