KHEMMIS/SPIRIT ADRIFT - FRAUGHT WITH PERIL
Two of the top new comers in the US doom scene unite for this very special split 7". Denver, CO's Khemmis and Tucson, AZ's Spirit Adrift each recently recorded their own version of classic US folk songs. Khemmis covered "A Conversation with Death" while Spirit Adrift tackled "Man of Constant Sorrow". These two tracks will be appear on a limited edition split entitled "Fraught With Peril" by War Crime Recordings and will be available June 16th, 2017. LAMONT, BRUCE - BROKEN LIMBS EXCITE NO PITY
When Bruce Lamont released his first solo album, Feral Songs For The Epic Decline, seven years ago, he was best known as the leader of the psychedelic Chicago jazz-metal group Yakuza. Thus, that album's morose, arty songs came as a radical departure, showing him to be just as comfortable constructing droning, Swans-like epics as exploding with industrial and black metal-inspired rage. In the six years since, his creative journey has taken him farther and farther afield. He's part of electronic noise-dirge squad Corrections House, with Eyehategod's Mike IX Williams, Neurosis's Scott Kelly, and longtime creative partner Sanford Parker; the mind-melting jazz-prog-hardcore trio Brain Tentacles, with Keelhaul bassist Aaron Dallison and grind drummer par excellence Dave Witte; and dozens of other projects, large and small, collaborating with an ever-growing network of like minds. Broken Limbs Excite No Pity, Lamont's second solo album, is in many ways a harsher experience than Feral Songs. Tracked in Chicago's Minbal Studios with Sanford Parker behind the board, it's a one-man show like its predecessor-Lamont sings, harmonizing mournfully with himself, and plays saxophone, guitar, percussion, and electronics. Also like last time, it opens with an 11-minute epic; "Excite No Pity" starts out featuring multiple crying saxophones and deep, almost Bill Laswell-esque bass drones, but is ultimately overtaken by searing electronic noise. "Maclean" warps an acoustic guitar melody with tape effects, to keep it from sounding too much like a Kansas song, while "Goodbye Electric Sunday" is a unique blend of Spaghetti Western soundtrack and Beat poetry over an almost-hip-hop groove. Lamont uses his voice as an instrument almost as often as he uses it to put across his lyrics. On "Neither Spare Nor Dispose," he wails and groans as loops of forcefully strummed acoustic guitar and rumbling percussion thunder past, and static washes over it all like a wave. TRACKLISTING: 01. Before there was Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit, there was the four horseman of the Atlanta music scene, Stuck Mojo. Formed in 1989, they were early pioneers in the rap metal movement that would not only blur but erase the lines between musical and cultural genres. By 1993, the band was playing 280 shows a year and had become one of the most talked about bands in the indie metal scene. The band was signed by Century Media Records and in the spring of 1995, Stuck Mojo released their first full length album, Snappin' Necks. The band would go on to be the label's biggest selling North American band of the 90's, releasing four albums and two EPs, in five years. SCALE THE SUMMIT - IN A WORLD OF FEAR
Described as "essential prog" by Guitar World, SCALE THE SUMMIT was formed in 2004 after guitarists Chris and Travis met while attending Hollywood's Musicians Institute. The group self-released their first album, 2007's "Monument," before signing with Prosthetic for the 2009 release of their sophomore effort "Carving Desert Canyons." That album earned acclaim from fans, critics and peers alike -- none more high-profile than former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who asked the band to take part in the group's Progressive Nation tour that year. From there, SCALE THE SUMMIT supported the release of 2011's "The Collective" with rigorous touring. With new bassist Mark in tow, the band then headed to King's Basement Studios in North Carolina to record "The Migration" (2013), their first effort to crack the Billboard Top 200. Described as "post-rock at its most melodic and dynamic best" (Alternative Press), the album was supported by extensive touring across North America and Europe, as well as appearances on several notable festivals (Yestival, SXSW, Cruise to the Edge, etc). SCALE THE SUMMIT are about to release their 6th studio album "IN A WORLD OF FEAR" out May, 19, 2017. Chris Letchford, the primary song writer since the creation of Scale The Summit has teamed up with the mighty Charlie Engen on drums and Kilian Duarte on bass to create the most anticipated album in instrumental metal in years. STUCK MOJO - HERE COME THE INFIDELS
Before there was Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit, there was the four horseman of the Atlanta music scene, Stuck Mojo. Formed in 1989, they were early pioneers in the rap metal movement that would not only blur but erase the lines between musical and cultural genres. By 1993, the band was playing 280 shows a year and had become one of the most talked about bands in the indie metal scene. The band was signed by Century Media Records and in the spring of 1995, Stuck Mojo released their first full length album, Snappin' Necks. The band would go on to be the label's biggest selling North American band of the 90's, releasing four albums and two EPs, in five years. During that time, the band toured the US and Europe with some of the top names in heavy music: Machine Head, Life Of Agony, Type O Negative, Testament and Pantera. In 1996, Stuck Mojo received the "best live band" award at the MTV European Music Awards Show. In early 2015 Stuck Mojo began writing material for a new album. After confirming the return of longtime producer Andy Sneap the band entered the studio in late summer and recorded the album Here Come the Infidels. Here Come The Infidels is an album for this moment in history as it escalates Stuck Mojo's rich history of pioneering new sonic territory while lyrically pummeling your Prius until it emits plumes of black smoke.
