"Void/Sanctify" is the debut full length from Feral Light, and is quite a bit of a departure and vehicle of growth from their previous release, "A Sound of Moving Shields". Both lyrically and musically, it stretches across more boundaries while managing to still keep an overall cohesive aesthetic. Now being a two-piece, fronted by Andy Schoengrund (ex-Wolvhammer), the outfit can move more lightly and swiftly, keeping a raw energy while still producing a very tight, powerful, and at times oppressive wall of sound. Rooted in black metal, "Void/Sanctify" also nods to elements of post-rock, death metal, and black and roll. Lyrically it is a 180 degree turn from the war themed lyrics of the previous release, instead focusing more on an abstract, internal theme throughout the record. After the release of their 2009 full-length, "Thresholds Of Imbalance", BATTLEFIELDS lost founding guitarist Andrew Wallin, and went on a brief hiatus from playing shows. HIVE DESTRUCTION was spawned in October 2008 from ex-members of Belgium metal staples AMENRA as a project to try out new riffing and stretching the known boundaries with a mixture of CROWBAR, NEUROSIS, ISIS, OLD MAN GLOOM and RUSSIAN CIRCLES heaviness combined with atmospheric, acoustic and original hooks, deafening electronics and gloomy grooves with layers of samples and sounds and instruments. Initially composed to be played as a live soundtrack (like at Roadburn Festival 2011 for example) on Carl Dreyer's "Vampyr" (silent film from 1932), this long musical piece was finally recorded in february 2012. The result is not a new YEAR OF NO LIGHT album but a long new track (72 minutes) with YEAR OF NO LIGHT classic heavy riffs mixed with more experimental and drone tunes that can remind us their collaborative records with NADJA or THISQUIETARMY.
