The Paintings is a flaming solid ball of creative explosion, whereby
storm-trooping guitars and rhythm of Peter Black's side-projects The
Hard-Ons and Nunchukka Superfly are overall forsaken in favour of
various water colours, pastels and oil paintings of beautiful,
introspective and may I say, whimsical melodies, that showcase a great
understanding of what it means to be an ambitious yet utterly

CASINO, JOHNNY - TRADE WINDS
Following up from
the 2017 release Time and Time Again, Johnny Casino has completed a new
album. Titled Trade Winds, it is set for release by Citadel in October
2018. The album began its life after a phone call from Kenny 'Killer'
Watt, Johnny's great friend and former member of Asteroid B612. Kenny
asked Johnny if he had any new ideas or songs he'd like to record in
Fremantle WA. The answer was an emphatic yes!! so Kenny put a band
together to record what would become Trade Winds. The band features
drummer Warren Hall (The Volcanics, Datura 4, The Drones), a great
organic musician who has been playing with Johnny for many years both
live and in the studio and bassist Martyn P Casey (Nick Cave and the
Bad Seeds / The Triffids / Grinderman) whom Johnny had met a few times
in his travels and who was impressed by Johnny's acoustic 'sketches' of
the songs. Add in some of local Fremantle colour; Dom Mariani (The
Stems / DM3 / Datura 4), Greg Hitchcock (The Bamboos / You Am I / The
Neptunes), John Phatouros (The Volcanics), Richard Lane (The Stems)
plus Sydney's singing sisters Jodi and Carrie Phillis (The Clouds / The
Boobytraps) and you have Johnny Casino's Trade Winds. Recorded in two
five day bursts the band would set up on the recording room floor and
work on Johnny's songs/ideas from the ground up, trying different
feels, tempo's and arrangements until they felt they had the song in
its right place. Lovingly recorded by Kenny Watt at Electric City
Studio in North Fremantle and then mixed by Kenny at Killerwatt Studios
Scarborough, it has been mastered in Detroit by Jim Diamond.

DICKSON, JIM - COELUM VERSUS
Citadel Records is
well pleased to announce the release of Coelum Versus, the debut solo
album from Jim Dickson. Not an immediately recognizable name perhaps,
but Jim has been a long time contributor to the Australian and
international Indie music scene. His career as a bass player has
spanned 40 years from the early days of 70's punk in Brisbane
(Australia) with the Survivors to most recently touring the world as a
member of Radio Birdman. In-between he has been a member of such iconic
bands as Sydney's Passengers, London based Barracudas and back again in
Sydney, The New Christs. He has also played and recorded with well
known Australian artists Louis Tillett, Deniz Tek, Charlie Owen, Paul
Berwick, Russell Murch and Steve Lucas. Assembled for the album are a
diverse group of local Sydney musicians; Rebecca Hancock (Ed Kuepper,
Watusi Now and solo artist in her own right with The Prison Wives) on
guitar and backing vocals; Bow Campbell (Front End Loader, The Dead
Marines) on guitar and backing vocals; Nick Fisher (Wet Taxis, late
1980's New Christs, Louis Tillett, Bughouse) on drums and percussion;
and Brent Williams (The New Christs, Zambian Goat Herders, Vvovos) on
keyboards. Deniz Tek, Paul Berwick and Suzy Goodwin make special guest
appearances as does Nick's son Carlo Fisher.

HARD-ONS - LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD OF WOUNDED HEARTS
The third release in
the Decade of Rock series, Love Is A Battlefield Of Wounded Hearts is a
Hard-Ons album choc-full of fan favourites: Don't Wanna See You Cry,
Kill Your Mum, Missing You Missing Me and Rejected are just some of the
sublime power-pop and punk masterpieces on this album. Clocking in at
just around half-an-hour, the original LP was a concise exercise in
explosive rock 'n' roll. Love Is A Battlefield Of Wounded Hearts is now
expanded to a full double CD set. In addition to the original album,
remastered to great detail, and the related 7" releases from that era,
are tracks salvaged from wonderful FM radio performances, demo
versions, various live tracks and two full unreleased studio sessions -
including a whole alternate album session that was initially rejected
by Waterfront Records: a real train-spotter's delight. Also included is
an extensive booklet are retrospective liner-notes and
never-before-seen photographs from this era.

HARD-ONS - PEEL ME LIKE AN EGG
An unusual Hard-Ons
album to be sure, Peel Me Like A Egg is a concise (13 tracks, 30
minutes) explosion of mega-rock riffage (Burning up on Re-entry), epic
black metal (Ain't got no Guardian Angel), moody and lush pop (Close to
the Ground), new-wave pop (Clumsy Little Oaf I Am) and (perhaps the
Hard-Ons' most famous trait) volatile and catchy power-pop (Shadow
Shelf).
Peel Me Like A Egg is the Hard-Ons' first album with current drummer
Murray Ruse. Incredibly it also features original drummer/vocalist
Keish de Silva on backing vocals. Together they contribute in turn
propulsive, unhinged and exciting rhythm and lush melodic elements.
Paradoxically, Peel Me Like A Egg is the Hard-Ons' most adventurous yet
accessible album to date ? precisely because of the serious lack of
fluff. Every note, every roll, and every crackle is made accountable on
this album, and every contribution is completely unwasted, no doubt due
to the ridiculously experienced nature of Blackie's monolithic
song-writing and the band's musicianship, as well as the explosive and
dynamic production from award-winning producer Chris Townend
(Silverchair, Portishead) with whom the boys have had a relationship
that spans over two decades.

Far Gone is the hell-spawn of an unorthodox and often misunderstood
band going down swinging. Too Far Gone is the glorious warts-and-all
end result of these magnificent bastards waving their privates in the
face of the oncoming alternate-rock apocalypse, an apocalypse in which
every flannel shirt wearing untalented gaggle ended up getting put on a
post-Nirvana pedestal, armed with Russian made fuzz pedals and zero

NEW CHRISTS - DIVINE RITES
The New Christs were
originally formed by Radio Birdman and New Race vocalist Rob Younger
after he was offered the support spot on Iggy Pop's Australian tour of
1984. The other members had played in groups such as Celibate Rifles,
Lime Spiders and Hoodoo Gurus. The tour proved a success and the band
stayed together, recording the two singles Like A Curse and Born Out Of
Time for Sydney independent label Citadel Records.
These releases gained acclaim for their tough and uncompromising nature
and were soon released in Europe by French based label Sonics. With the
prospect of an album deal and European tour possible, the other members
however chose to return to their other band interests. Younger was left
to pursue a career producing some of the finest upcoming Australian
alternative bands.
In 1986 Barracudas bass player Jim Dickson returned to Australia from
the UK and together with Younger started a new line-up. Featured were
Charlie Owen, a gifted but as yet unknown guitarist and drummer Louis
Burdett who soon left and was replaced by Nick Fisher who had
previously played with Ed Kuepper and Wet Taxis. Over the next three
years, the band released a series of hard hitting singles; Black Hole,
Headin' South and the EP Dropping Like Flies. These new tracks were
compiled under the title Divine Rites and released in Europe as a
mini-album thus allowing the group to tour there for the first time.

It was eight years
between this album and Distemper, with only the intervening releases
Pedestal and Woe Betide. It had taken that long to get a stable lineup
together that in any way matched that of the Distemper lineup. This was
a high point in the New Christ's discography and represents a turning
point of some type. The record did the biz in Europe despite being
neglected at home.

ON AND ONS, THE - IT'S THE ON AND ONS CALLING
After a successful
stint touring Australia and the US in 2012 as members of The Paul
Collins Beat, local vocalist and guitarist Glenn Morris and his drummer
brother Brian were encouraged to record their own album of Glenn's
original songs. Both members of local Sydney outfit The Zeros, Glenn is
perhaps better known as a member of Kings of the Sun and later The
Screaming Tribesmen.
Produced and engineered by legendary Australian guitarist Dennis Wilson
of Khavas Jute fame, It's The On And Ons Calling consists of 11 songs
that are pure rock/power pop in essence. Just what you might hope for;
great tunes based on exceptional harmonies and classic instrumentation.
The On and Ons have been rounded out with the addition of bassist Clyde
Bramley (ex Hoodoo Gurus), guitarist/keyboardist Richard Lane (ex
Stems) and guitarist Jon Roberts (ex Barbarellas).

Welcome Aboard is
the second album from the Sydney Australia based pop/rock act The On
and Ons and is best described as powerpop. The band's musical pedigree
includes Hoodoo Gurus, Screaming Tribesmen, Paul Collins Beat, and The
Barbarellas.
Produced by band members Glenn Morris and Clyde Bramley, the album
features 13 songs that follow and expand upon the guitar-driven and
harmony drenched sound of 2015's debut It's The On & Ons Calling.
The band is aided and abetted by a number of guests including Richard
Lane (ex-Stems) on organ, and Murray Cook (ex-The Wiggles) on Fender 12
string.

SHY IMPOSTERS - SHY IMPOSTERS
From September 1979
to June 1980, Shy Impostors shook up Sydney's inner city live music
scene. Fronted by singer-songwriter Penny Ward and with guitarist
Richard Burgman (Sunnyboys, The Saints, Weddings, Parties, Anything),
bassist Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys, Sparklers, Ed Kuepper) and drummer
Michael Charles (Lipstick Killers, Screaming Tribesmen, Mick Medew
& The Mesmerisers), they played infectious, raucous and melodic pop
music.
In February of 1980 the band recorded seven songs at Palm Studios,
Sydney. Two of these tracks, At The Barrier / Seein' Double, were
posthumously released late in 1980 on Sydney's Phantom label. The other
five tracks languished in the vaults.
During 2016 all seven tracks were restored from original master tapes
and mixed by producer Jason Blackwell. The resulting eponymous CD will
be released by Citadel Records on February 3rd 2017. This long overdue
retrospective will give yet another intriguing insight into the
formative years of Sydney's post Radio Birdman indie music explosion.

VOLCANICS - OH CRASH
No hype - just
stripped down rock n roll at its best. Perth's Volcanics are back with
their fourth studio album. Oh Crash, like its predecessors Get A Move
and Transmission has been produced by Radio Birdman's Rob Younger.
Inspired by local Perth acts The Scientists and The Victims the band
also pays homage to The Stooges and MC5. Regardless, their sound is
their own brand of raw and explosive rock, now notably bolstered by the
fact the band has become a five piece with the addition of a second
guitarist to the mix.
More recently The Volcanics have just released album number four Oh
Crash.... and launched it to a packed house at the Amplifier Bar in
Perth, Western Australia. The band is now getting ready for their third
tour of Europe in October 2017 and will be playing shows throughout
Spain and France. Look out for Volcanic activity in Europe in October
2017!!

VOLCANICS - TRANSMISSION
The Volcanics formed in Perth's back blocks with a purpose of playing
stripped down rock n' roll with no hype attached. Inspired by great
local bands who came before them like The Victims and The Scientists as
well as the classic rock sounds of The Stooges, MC5 and AC/DC, the band
have concocted their own brand of white hot, fuel injected rock ' roll
becoming well known for their raw and explosive live performances along
the way.
The band have played numerous headline local shows as well as
supporting the likes of Radio Birdman, The Scientists, The Datsuns,
Front End Loader, The Trews, Guitarwolf, The Saints and New York Dolls.
They also played to a sold out RTR FM's 20th anniversary In The Pines
festival. Last year they toured Spain on the back of their second album
Get A Move On (citcd575) released by Citadel.
Their third full length album is now ready and will see light of day on
October 10th on Citadel Records. The ten track Transmission (citcd588)
was recorded at Electric City Studios in WA being produced by Radio
Birdman's Rob Younger and mixed by Wayne Connolly at Sydney's Alberts
Studio.
