When asked to describe his debut solo vinyl release, Wave MMLZ (pronounced "Wave Mammals") simply referred to it as "a love letter to growing up in Vegas". And that's about as much of a review as you can expect from the producer/rapper, who prefers the listener to develop their own take as opposed to feeling the need to verbally explain his art. Thus enters Alexander Decatur, a character who was created to embody the feeling and vibe of growing up in his old neighborhood. Alexander Road and Decatur Boulevard were the main cross streets where he lived as a youngster, and these tracks represent what eventually became the final project he recorded in his home studio before moving to a newer part of town. With range enough to place him as direct support for Paul Wall, Twista, and Elzhi this year alone; Wave MMLZ has released the perfect antidote to an otherwise predictable and disposable genre. (For fans of Mac Miller & Tyler, The Creator.) |
